RWANDA’s good run at the ongoing 2018 African Nations Championship (CHAN) on track after winning 1-0 in the second game in Group C against Equatorial Guinea at Grande Stade de Tanger, Morocco, putting their hopes for the quarter-finals in serious position.
Rayon Sports center defender Thierry Manzi deviated the wonderful corner from Djihad Bizimana in the 66th minute to give all three points for Antoine Hey’s team.
Rwanda and Nigeria are leading the table with four points after drawing one game and winning one while Libya dropped to third position after losing to Nigeria 1-0. Libya has 3 points after thrashing Equatorial Guinea 3-0 in opening game while Rwanda shared spoils with Nigeria.
The goal came after the dominance of Amavubi in second game where Abeddy Biramahire, Dominique Savio Nshuti and Fitina Ombalenga had chances to score, but failed to hit the target.
Rwanda had played a goalless draw against Nigeria in opening game before winning second game 1-0 against Equatorial Guinea.
Rwanda started with pressing, but Dominique Savio Nshuti failed to score after Eric Iradukunda, Djihad Bizimana and Yannick Mukunzi exchanging ball in the dangerous.
Ally Niyonzima will miss the third game against Libya after receiving a second yellow card, he got the first against Nigeria.
In the second half, Fitina Ombalenga replaced Eric Iradukunda to increase the chances of scoring.
Muhadjiri Hakizimana came on for defender Faustin Usengimana in order to boost the striking department while Amran Nshimiyimana came on for Savio Nshuti with five minutes to the stoppage time.
In the 49th minute Abeddy Biramahire had chance to kill the game where he went man to man against goalie Minguel Angel Oscar Eyama but failed to beat him while Eyama went to save Muhadjiri Hakizimana’s long range shot which looked sharp and quick
In the 52nd minute Ombalenga created good cross to Dominique Savio Nshuti but his head was saved by Equatorial Guinea defenders.
Meanwhile, Nigeria beat Libya 1-0, thanks for the lone goal of Sunday Faleye in the 79th minute.
Rwanda will play the last game against Libya on Tuesday looking for win or draw to reach the quarter final while Nigeria will play against Equatorial Guinea.
