Athletes Salome and Sugira scoop silver medals in German
Rwandan duo Salome Nyirarukundo and James Sugira scoop silver medals from the Bitburger-Silvesterlauf in Trier tournament staged in Germany this Sunday, 31 December 2017.
The tournament that was staged for its 28th round attracted 1600 athletes from 27 countries to only see Rwandan duo scooping silver medals. Salome was one of the Rwanda representatives at the race that had stars like the 20-year old holding champion "Koko" Klosterhalfen from German with a world record in 800 meters with (1: 59.65), 1500 meters with (3’58” 92), 3000 meters with (8’29’’) and 5000 ( 14’ 51’’).
Salome Nyirarukundo scooped silver medal after finishing second
Rwandan Salome Nyirarukundo ranked second in 5000 meters behind Konstanze Klosterhalfen. Melat Yisak from Ethiopia, Sylvia Mmboga Medugu ( Kenya), Catherine Heinig (Uganda) ranked third, fourth and fifth respectively.
Sugira scooped a silver medal in men’s category after finishing second
In men category, James Sugira finished second after clocking 23’11" behind Moroccan Zouhair Talbi (23’08"), while Kenyan Alfred Cherop finished third in a 800-meter distance.
